As I scanned the original set of figurines in 2017, I tried to get the best middle ground between quality, calculation time and post-processing. The result was a very successful set of models that was sold in six continents, several hundred times.

But at the end of 2022 I got a very critical rating that brought me to review the state of my models. In the last years, my workflow and capturing setup greatly changed, and I noticed that the models are not on par with the now available printing technologies. Also, my own skill set changed a lot, so I decided a careful remaster of the nativity set.
Sadly, I only got the original 3D Data of the models and not the Pictures I used for the photogrammetry. Moreover, I would rather not start to scan the models again. So, I tried adding some more details via sculpting in Blender. This worked rather well, but was not as Detailed as I would have liked. Many Details were unrecognizable in the meshes, and to only work using my imagination wasn't what I wanted. So, I used a small trick.
I used the original Scanned OBJ Files and their textures in an DISPLACE modifier and added the drawn on details this way into the sculpt.
Because the Textures show all the painted details and plenty of rough smudge, it was imperative to smooth and enhance every Bit of surface on the models.
